Love
شہیدِ محبّت نہ کافر نہ غازی
The martyrs of Love are not Muslim nor Paynim,
محبّت کی رسمیں نہ تُرکی نہ تازی
The manners of Love are not Arab nor Turk!
وہ کچھ اور شے ہے، محبّت نہیں ہے
Some passion far other than Love was the power
سِکھاتی ہے جو غزنوی کو ایازی
That taught Ghazni’s high ruler to dote on his slave.
یہ جوہر اگر کار فرما نہیں ہے
When the spirit of Love has no place on the throne,
تو ہیں علم و حکمت فقط شیشہ بازی
All wisdom and learning vain tricks and pretence!
نہ محتاجِ سُلطاں، نہ مرعوبِ سُلطاں
Paying court to no king, by no king held in awe,
محبّت ہے آزادی و بے نیازی
Love is freedom and honor, whose scorn of the world
مِرا فقر بہتر ہے اسکندری سے
Holds more than the magic that made Alexander
یہ آدم گری ہے، وہ آئینہ سازی
His fabulous mirror—its magic makes man.محبت
